Planes, Automobiles, and Escalators
Planes, Automobiles and Escalators
What do they all have in common? They take us somewhere wewant to go. They make getting there faster and easier.
Have you ever been driving in traffic and it seems like nomatter which lane you are in it’s the “slow” lane?
Have you ever been racing through the airport to catch yourconnecting flight and get on the escalator and there’s that one person who just won’t get out of your way?
Closed Doors
I was traveling recently and I happen to be the first person off the plane and up the jet bridge. Coming to the end of the walkway I realized that the door going into the airport was closed…I tried the door and it wouldn’t open, it wasn’t locked but I was afraid to really test it because it’s not my job to make sure the door is open for us to walk through.
The people behind me were asking things like, is it locked? Did you try it? Maybe we have to wait?
Optional Thoughts
Did you know, that all thoughts are optional? I realized recently that my mind likes to try to tell me a lot of things as if they are facts.
Take for instance, this morning as I was standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom looking at myself… My mind said to me “you look tired,” however I got 10 hours of sleep, and when I questioned this thought and looked at myself with unbiased objectivity…my face actually looked like I was well-rested. My eyes were clear and bright, my complexion looked good and by all appearances I appeared to be well rested.
Divine Purpose
Have you been wondering what your purpose is?
*Purpose* (noun) the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
You were born, you were created 100% worthy. You have already fulfilled your “purpose.” What does this mean for You today?
Self Confidence
Where do you believe self confidence comes from?
The definition that the Google’s give I have self confidence: To be secure in yourself and your abilities. Our thoughts create our feelings.
So what does that actually look like? To Have Self Confidence.
Are You a Should-er?
Do you ever find yourself saying “Should” statement’s to yourself? Recently I realized that I “should” on myself a lot.
“I should be able to do that.” “I should have behaved better.” “I should know better.” “I shouldn’t do that.”
At first glance should statements feel like a good, productive, promoting thought.
Is Purpose Calling You?
Wouldn’t it be great if our life’s purpose was actually calling us on the telephone and was there to tell us exactly what we’re supposed to be doing at any given time?
Actually it is! That small voice inside of you that keeps urging you to pursue new things, or to try something different, all of those little and big things that really truly bring you Joy.
You are Your Best Investment
When I decided to become a certified life coach I thought it was selfish to invest in myself. I thought it might be a waste of money for me to join the Life Coach School.
How many times have you spent time or money on things that you decided later really didn’t matter or didn’t add value to your life or mind?
We Think We Have Problems
We think we have problems. We have thoughts about things. This is it. I thought I had a problem.
My friend, complains about Everything. Absolutely Everything. It annoys the crap out of me. Is this a problem? Or a Thought? My brain insists that it’s a big problem.
My thoughts about my friend is that it’s annoying that she is always complaining as if everything she says is factual news. My brain has a lot of thoughts. Not problems.
Recharge Your Battery
How often do you plug in your cell phone? How do you feel when your phone only has 1% battery left?
Personally I feel a sense of panic! My thoughts run something like “what if I miss something?!” ” What if someone can’t reach me?! “
Self-care is a priority, not a luxury! But we treat self-care as a luxury. Taking a nap (resting) feels like a luxury when it could be a priority for self-care. Soaking tired muscles in a hot bath, seems like a luxury, but
Growing Takes Time
When I was a young teenager I did not think about growing to become my best self. I thought I was just living.
As a young woman in my 20’s I was a new mom and was watching my children grow and learn, and I was learning and growing up with my kids.
We grow in all stages of life even when we don’t feel like we are growing,
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Adversity. Challenges. Obstacles.
Resilience in the face of adversity.
How well do you handle adversity, challenges and obstacles? Are you able to work your way through challenges and adversities in your life? Where do you go out of your way to avoid the adversities, challenges and obstacles in your life?
Emotional Skill Stacking
Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert cartoon strip, says “the idea of a talent stack or skill stack is that you can combine ordinary skills until you have enough of the right kind of skills to be extraordinary. You don’t have to be the best at any one thing all you need is skills that work well together. “
” A combination of mediocre skills can make you surprisingly valuable” Scott Adams.
Here are a few things that I believe are important for any emotional skills stack.
Instruction Manual
Wouldn’t it be great if the people in our lives came with instruction manuals?
I just bought a brand new stove and dishwasher and they both came with instruction manuals.
When I was a brand new mom my babies did not come with instruction manuals.
I do find it fascinating that even though people do not come with instruction manuals, and manuals don’t work on people… We still try to use our own unspoken internal manuals on them anyway.
Becoming Anti-fragile
Anti-fragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shocks and stays the same.
The anti-fragile gets better.
Things that are anti-fragile benefit from randomness, uncertainty and variation.
As we increase our ability to thrive as a result of stressors, shocks, mistakes, failures or attacks, the more anti-fragile we become.
There’s actually proof of this, for instance
Plans versus Reality
Have you ever thought to yourself “well that didn’t go according to how you planned it”?
But what if…Everything is exactly as it’s supposed to be.
Our “plan” is really just our anticipated expectation of a desired outcome.
Like in the picture above…A lot of our “plans” don’t include this thing we call life, interrupting our anticipated expectation.
But the beauty of this is that everything in our life is really just an experiment.
Do You Talk to Yourself?
Dr James Gills said, “I’ve learned to talk to myself instead of listen to myself.”
He continued, “If I listen to myself I hear all the reasons why I should give up. I hear that I’m too tired-too old-too weak to make it. But if I talk to myself I can give myself the encouragement and words I need to hear to keep running and finish the race.”
When I read this, I was right in the middle of life coach certification school and I was struggling
What is Time?
Do You Feel Like You Never Have Time? Some days I catch myself saying, if I only had More Time!!
What exactly is Time?
time: noun - The indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole
I love this idea, Progress of existing. All progress takes Time.
Disengage Auto Pilot
Life by default, part 1
Have you been living your life on autopilot or by default?
Most of us are.
Human nature is to seek out comfort and avoid expending effort.
We all fall into a life of routine at some point or another and some of us just stay there, I personally have been guilty of
Life By Design
I’m going to talk to you about some of the steps that I have found helpful if my journey disengage the autopilot or Life by default that I had gotten used to.
Step #1
Stop Playing The Blame Game.
You know the one I’m talking about…
